First Vintage Show of the Year!

Image
Michelle and I are so pumped! Our first show since before COVID! Hope you'll join us tomorrow, Sunday, June 6 5am to 3pm at Todd Farm Antiques and Flea Market. We just packed up the OffbeatMobile chock full of vintage goodies that aren't available on our Etsy shop. We've been saving this stuff for a market since you have to really see it in person to be-LOVE it! We've got vintage television sets, a vintage radio, vintage reel to reel player, steamer case, vintage vanity with mirror and much more! Hope to see you there!

What are you looking forward to in 2021?

I don't have to tell you because you've lived through it too. 2020 was a crazy year, but now that we are in 2021 I'm ready to start looking forward to things to do this year. Last January Michelle and I planned for all kinds of outdoor shows including a great ephemera show in the spring. But of course everything was put on hold. So now what? Well, we are assuming there may not be outdoor vintage shows this spring, but by summer we think we'll start to see a few pop up. The other thing that happened in 2020 was we had our best sales year yet. You read right, it was our busiest year. The changes we made in 2019 really paid off. We started carrying a wider variety of hard to find items, got more organized, did a lot more videos, and opened up our shop to more international orders. The result was tons more orders and also racked up more than 1000 five star reviews!  Our planning last January taught us that you never know what's in store.  So we're looking forward ...

Spring Cleaning for Vintage Sellers

Image
Spring cleaning!  🐣  During this mandated stay at home period we have done a lot of organizing at the warehouse (separately of course! I haven’t seen Michelle in person in 3 weeks!) I know this looks like a mess but it’s much better than it was! I started on ephemera and books and Michelle organized our growing craft and sewing project section and expanded the toys and board games section as well. Next up are hats and handbags! Getting organized

What's New for Summer 2019

Image
Greeting vintage fans! It's been a whacky summer for me and Michelle. We've had some family health issues that have prevented us from doing shows, but in the meantime we've been stocking up the shops (Etsy, eBay, Depop, if you must know!) with amazing vintage goodies. Some of my favorites include a 60s mod white sleeveless shift dress, a key knife from Craftsman, an Apollo 11 lithograph, and a Trader Vic's swizzle stick! Check em out here.

2019 is here and it's gonna be a great one! This month got off to a strong start. Seems vintage fans just couldn't get enough of some of our newly listed items. Check out our most favorited items this month: Everyone loves this tiny gold spoon pin with pearl drop accent!  Wicker is a classic for any season so no wonder this wicker plant stand or foot stool is so popular. Black lace chapel veil for subdued goth glamour. The New Year makes us return to past years, here's a vintage calendar from a Chinese Restaurant in 1984.

Unboxing Our Gift from the Marvelous Mrs Maisel TV Show!

Image
We're so pleased with the lovely gift we received from the vintage lovin folks over at Amazon Prime's Golden Globe winning TV series, the Marvelous Mrs Maisel. They had a special giveaway on their Instagram account that Michelle answered and won the gift! We're huge fans of this well written very funny show about a 1950s housewife that decides to become a stand-up comic. The prop master at the show has actually purchased a few items from yours truly, Offbeat Avenue! It doesn't get any more authentic than that! Watch the unboxing happen on our YouTube video:

Cleaning a Vintage Copper Pot - Before and After!

Image
Update: this copper pot sold! Winter afternoons I like to start little projects for Offbeat Avenue. Michelle and I have our specialties, she's the expert in crafts and design, and I'm the fixer upper. I clean, sew, repair vintage items to get them ready for sale. I enjoy taking something that's been in hiding for decades and making it ready for its Offbeat Avenue debut! Case in point, I have had this gorgeous copper pot for a few months and I didn't want to put it up for sale without giving it the once (or twice, thrice) over.  This heavy duty  Stockli Netstal Copper Hammered Pot Casserole Pan was a little rough, so I decided to shine it up. Well that took some elbow grease as it hadn't been shined up in ages. The wood handles needed to be cleaned up too as years of gunk got into the pretty scrolled design.  I went through so many blackened napkins before you could really see the beauty of the hammered copper. But once I was finished what a...

This Week's Favorite Likes and Looks for Mother's Day

Image
We're already two weeks into May and can start to see what's trending at the Offbeat Avenue shop. This month, vintage fans are definitely thinking of dressing for the season's upcoming special occasions like graduations, weddings, showers, and of course Mother's Day! Certain dresses are getting lots of likes and looks: Here's one of our personal favorites, a black, plus size rayon crepe dress with sequins. Though not in perfect shape (the previous owner altered it to make it larger) it's really a classic little black dress fit for any special occasion. Speaking of special occasion seems everyone has their eye on this peachy little satin dress number straight out of the 1970s or Studio 54! Slinky, sexy, Grecian styling in a super soft polyester knit. A local (to us) looker too, made in Providence, Rhode Island! When the warm weather comes you want to be cool and chic, and this Nipon Boutique cotton dress is the perfect summery casual yet...

Winner Announced for Bead Counting Contest from Offbeat Avenue

Image
It all began when Michelle listed a Mason Jar full of beads on Instagram at the beginning of April. #vintage #bead #lot #1776 #libertybell #masonjar #filled #beads #colorful #glass #metal #wood #plastic #allsorts #fashion #crafting #jewelry #sewing #forsale #etsy #leominster A post shared by Offbeat Avenue (@offbeatavenue) on Apr 9, 2018 at 8:05am PDT When I saw the post it was as if a light-bulb in the shape of a giant jar full of craft beads appeared over my head. Let's start a contest to see who could guess how many beads were in the jar.   Did I have any idea how many there were? Of course not.  Whoever guesses the correct amount, or closest number to the actual amount, under or over, would win a custom made Bertrand bottle opener key chain! Michelle filled this jar with a huge assortment of all kinds of beads: glass beads, charm beads, vintage beads, novelty beads, plastic beads, findings, pearls, gems, and much much more. It was as much a mystery t...

More Vintage Favorites April 2018

Image
Here's another roundup of our most popular vintage items this month. Even though there's still snow on the ground, thoughts turn to spring and we are starting to see some of our spring season vintage goodies get tons of traffic. Click on pictures for more information on each item. It's prom season, so no surprise our Goth Prom Dress got so many favorites! This one is so pretty, with tons of black tulle, and a matching scarf. Speaking of prom, hair accessories are all the rage to keep updos, side braids, and chignons in place, and this one is no exception. Lightweight and understated, this is the perfect accent for any romantic hairstyle. And if you're going to do your hair vintage style, you might as well have the right equipment! How's this vintage pink hair dryer with cap for full on vintage look! Hint: yes it works! Even though it still feels like winter in April here in New England, our visitors are eyeing the eyewear, especially these vi...
